Steel prop extension length affects the capacity available from a specific adjustable prop, so buyers should check a load chart at the actual installed height. A telescopic prop has an inner tube, outer tube, adjustment pin and threaded screw or collar. As the inner tube is extended, the geometry of the supported member changes. The permitted load also depends on the product design, end restraint, bracing and whether the load is applied concentrically. There is no defensible universal “tons per prop” value across every extension. Tianjin Easy Scaffolding’s internal card lists a broad height range of about 1.7–3.0 m and historical capacity notes, but those are not a project load table. This article explains five checks that belong between the formwork drawing and the purchase order, with emphasis on the extension shown for each prop location.
An adjustable steel prop height range should cover the installed support height after accounting for the formwork panel, beams, head and base. Floor-to-floor height alone is not the prop length. The prop also has to carry the calculated reaction at that particular extension and be used within its manufacturer’s adjustment instructions. Tianjin Easy Scaffolding’s internal steel-prop card gives an approximate 1.7–3.0 m range for some products, but it does not identify a universal model or capacity at every setting. The right selection begins with a section drawing, then checks minimum and maximum extension, screw travel, load chart, bracing and bearing. It keeps physical fit, rated load and construction sequence as separate checks so one convenient height number does not hide a support problem.
Swivel coupler vs right angle coupler is a question about connection function, not simply about price or appearance. A right-angle coupler holds two scaffold tubes at a fixed 90-degree relationship in a specified tube-and-coupler layout. A swivel coupler allows an angled connection, commonly for a diagonal brace. The two should not be substituted just because both clamp around similar tubes. Check the scaffold design, tube outside diameter, coupler jaw, bolt condition and manufacturer’s tightening instructions before erection. The resulting scaffold’s loading capacity depends on the full arrangement, not on the isolated clamp’s catalogue description. This guide explains where each fitting belongs, how to inspect it and what a buyer should include in an RFQ. It also covers adjacent fittings, such as sleeve couplers, so a material list does not turn every tube joint into the same generic “clamp.”
Tube and clamp scaffolding irregular structures can be useful where a fixed modular bay does not follow the work face. Individual tubes and right-angle or swivel couplers give the designer more choices around curved façades, offsets, plant, openings and changes in level. That flexibility also creates more connection and bracing decisions. The scaffold still needs a planned load path, suitable platform supports, access, ties and an adequate foundation. It should not be built by improvising around obstructions one tube at a time. Start with a measured site drawing and the intended work, then have a qualified person design the configuration and specify the coupler schedule.
